You have to join a Lions Club to become a Lion— a member of the International Association of Lions Clubs. You can not just join Lions Clubs International; Lions Clubs International is an association of Lions clubs. Members of Lions clubs become members of Lions International when they are inducted into a Lions Club.

How much does it cost to join a Lions club?

Annual dues for Lions clubs are set by the clubs. The range currently seems to be between $70.00 and $90.00 a year, but that is only a rough guide. Dues are charged for a fiscal year that runs from July 1 through June 30. When you first join a Lions club there is a one–time entrance fee of $25.00. There are also discounts if you are less than 30 years old, are a student, or if you and one or more family members join a club..

Do I have to pay dues to Lions International?

No. You do not pay any dues other than the annual dues to the club you join. That being said, Lions clubs are charged an annual assessment from Lions Clubs International and from MD19 for each club member; Lions club dues are generally structured to cover the assessments a club receives from Lions Clubs International and from MD19. The annual assessments from Lions Clubs International are $43.00 per capita, and the annual assessments from MD19 are $18.60 per capita. Note, too, that the Lions Club International assessments for family members and students is 1/2 ($21.50 annually) of regular member dues, and clubs typically pass that discount on to the dues of its family and student members.

Can I help with a Lions project even if I am not a LIon?

Sure. Lions clubs welcome volunteers to their service projects and service activities.

Where does the money raised by fund raising activities go?

All money raised by Lions clubs from fund–raising activities is returned to the public. All club operational expenses are paid for only through member contributions and dues— all money raised by the Club from the public is returned to public, charitable needs and causes supported by the club— no public funds are used for Club operations.

What is a Zone?

A Lions zone is an administrative group of Lions clubs withn a district. A zone has no executive or administrative authority over the clubs, but serves as a liason, through a Zone Chair[erson, to the district governor of the district in which the club, and zone, are located. The average zone consist of 8 clubs.

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) was founded in 1968 to take the mission of Lions Clubs International to new heights by tackling global problems, as well as assisting Lions with large∇scale local humanitarian projects. LCIF’s history is filled with high-impact projects, meaningful partnerships and the kindness and efforts of Lions.

What kinds of grants does LCIF make?

LCIF offers several kinds of grants: Humanitarian grants aimed at empowering people with disabilities, global health concerns and to support youth;Designated grants dedicated to specific causes; Leo service grants that allow Leos to assess, plan, and implement their own service projects; District and community impact grants that fund local projects on a club or district level; Disaster grants, and; SightFirst grants focused on vison assistance.

Where does the money go that is raised by Lions clubs?

100% of the funds raised by Lions clubs are returned to the communities served by Lions clubs. Lions clubs segregate public fund–raising money from the money they use to administer club needs or acquire club property. Lions club administrtive needs are funded by Lions, not public funds.
